The Coconut Tree, scientifically known as Cocos nucifera, is a resilient, slow-growing palm that thrives in warm, arid climates like that of the UAE. Its slender, swaying trunk and graceful, fan-shaped fronds create a stunning visual impact, while the potential to produce coconuts adds to the tree’s allure and usefulness.
Despite its tropical origins, the Coconut Tree is well-adapted to the challenges of the UAE environment. It requires minimal watering and can withstand high temperatures and direct sunlight, making it a low-maintenance addition to any garden or landscape. The tree’s deep root system also allows it to tolerate periods of drought, further enhancing its suitability for xeriscaping and water-wise gardening.
Whether planted as a standalone specimen or incorporated into a lush, tropical-themed landscape, the Coconut Tree from Thailand is sure to captivate and delight. Order your tree from Greenplantshop.ae today and bring the serene beauty of the tropics to your UAE home.
Coconuts can float on water across oceans for several months until they reach the new ground to create roots and grow because the seedling developing inside the coconut feeds on the coconut water and coconut meat provided. Coconuts grow at the top of large palms (up to 30m tall), with 4 to 6m long, evergreen, feather-like leaves. The palm starts producing coconuts after about 6 years and becomes most productive by the age of 15 to 20 years.
Water the coconut tree frequently. Coconut palms are very cold-sensitive. If you live in an area that gets cold, your coconut plant will need to come inside for the winter. Provide supplemental light and keep it away from drafts. In the summer, grow it outdoors and make sure you place it in a very sunny and warm spot. Growing coconut palms are heavy feeders that require regular, complete fertiliser. Look for a fertiliser that provides both the basic nutrients plus trace nutrients like boron, manganese and magnesium.
