Plant Bio
A more diminutive variety of the jade plant, Crassula ovata (Hobbit Jade) is a succulent plant that grows up to three feet tall. Crassula ovata ‘hobbit’ is a slow growing succulent that is perfect for those with brown fingers. It is easy to grow and doesn’t mind a bit of neglect.
Plant in well-drained soil with compost added, and include perlite for drainage. A layer of pebbles and sand at the bottom will help with drainage and prevent rot from forming. As a houseplant, place the pot near a window that gets a lot of light. It can grow in indirect light, but the color won’t be as vibrant. Since jade is a desert plant, fertilization once a year is plenty, and diluted liquid fertilizer is the best choice. Overwatering will cause the Hobbit Jade to rot at the base and perish. Allow it to dry out before watering again since the plant is better off with too little water than too much.
