Everyone loves lilies. With large, showy blooms, lilies add striking elegance to the one’s indoor space, from early to midsummer. Grown from bulbs, lilies are perennial flowers that will return year after year and require minimal care, provided that you plant them in the right place. True lilies in the family Liliceae, including Asiatic lilies (Asiatic hybrids) and Lily-of-the-Nile (Agapanthus spp.), are easy-to-grow, flowering houseplants.
Place potted lilies where they receive bright light for six to eight hours daily, supplementing the light with grow bulbs if necessary. Rotate the plants occasionally so all sides receive equal light. Lilies prefer room temperature for foliage growth as well as during blooming. Appropriate temperatures range between 10 & 24 degrees Celcius (50 & 75 degrees Fahrenheit). Maintain even soil moisture by watering regularly. Allowing the soil to dry out can cause a setback in growth that prevents flowering. Feed with a diluted balanced fertilizer about once a week. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizers. Fish emulsion is an excellent organic choice, but select a deodorized version for indoor use.
