Mexican giant cardon (Pachycereus pringlei)
Mexican giant cardon (Pachycereus pringlei) the world’s tallest cactus that usually grows to around 10 m but has been recorded at 19.2 m with a trunk a metre in diameter. Average specimens can weigh 20 tonnes. Bacteria and fungi on its roots allow it to get nutrients from the air and rock so it can grow even without soil. Native to Mexico
